Evinrude Lower Unit-help
Have 1978 70hp evinrude outboard 70873C. Motor works in forward or reverse but not both. Mechanic of 35 years went to replace lower unit and found that the driveshaft had a 6 sided end that goes into the powerhead. He said it should be four sided and has never seen this before. He said it may be canadian made. I'm back to square one. Does anyone know anything about this? or have a lower unit that will work or a 45hp motor or larger for sale? im looking for a old falling apart boat trailer or a nice one whatever i can get.
i can rebuild it. it is for a project boat so its fine if the trailor is a project itself.
i know someone has one rusting away in there back yard somewhere.

here is some of the things i have to offer.
stock small block chevy Heads,------- a 2 bolt main 350 block (needs machined to 4.030 due to rust)----------a 4 bolt main 350 block fresh from the machine shop. fresh cut to 4.030 with new cam bearings pressed in. no rust and its ready to build has the hi performance 010, 020 castings. and is a 1979 block-----------, bed cover from a 97 dodge dakota. had struts to hold it up. it is the locking, hard fiberglass kind. its silver but clear coat is chipping off so could use new paint--------, hoosier racing slicks for 15" wheels. i have a set of 2 left. lightly used,----------- 2 non running push mowers. one needs carb, tank, muffler and a pull cord. the other is a lowes brand and needs a coil.------- 2Bbl carb from a chevy. worked good about 2 months ago when went with a aftermarket setup.
im sure i have more stuff i just gota get out there and look so check back.

All of that cost me $600. I haven't put it in the water since I've had it fixed,but the man that fixed it tested it out and said that it ran fine.
